Crumpet’s Tarts 52 Week Pick n Mix Challenge – Week 1

So I’ve entered into my first nail challenge and I’m glad to be doing it under the guiding eye of Debbie Crumpet.  All of the ladies in this challenge are SO inspiring so I really have to step up my game to hang with this crew. The challenge is actually in its second week so I have a little catching up to do.  Here’s what I managed to do last night with Karbach Hopadillo IPA as my creative catalyst.

This week’s prompts were teal and 2-color gradient.  I wanted to do a different take on a gradient so I did a jelly dot gradient using Zoya Frieda – a teal jelly that I’ve had around a while but never used – and Zoya Purity for the dots.  I threw in some Wet n Wild Kaleidoscope for some holo water sparkle.  I’m really pleased with how this turned out!

Black Sheep Fall Collection Preview Plus One

As I mentioned yesterday, I love Black Sheep Lacquer.  Erin makes such fun, high quality polishes and is a pretty danged nice lady to boot. I have a couple of polishes from her upcoming fall collection that I received in my monthly subscription and one of my personal favorite polishes.  These were all paid for with my hard earned money so I have no obligation to be overly nice – but I can’t help it!  I love her polishes!!

First up is Smooth Criminal.  This polish will be available when she releases her Fall collection, which is available for preorder on her site now. It’s priced at $50 for full size (14mL) and $25 for minis.  Considering that there are EIGHT polishes in the collection – IT IS A STEAL. Smooth Criminal falls (har har) between royal and navy with an outstanding shimmer that’s meant to emulate the color of Michael Jackson’s tie in the “Smooth Criminal” video. I only know this because Mr. Tipsy is a huge MJ fan and he schooled me.

Here’s her Fall Collection glitter – Mustard Flake.  It’s packed with bronze hexes, gold holo glitter in various shapes, gold micro glitter, and iridescent glitter.  It looks great over lots of different colors so I did a sampling here.

The last polish is Blink.  A beautiful pink to blue duochrome that is downright magical over black polish. I used some chevron vinyl nail stickers that Mr. Tipsy made for me.  Pictures can’t capture how electric this looked in person.  It was like the polish was lighted from below.  Absolutely amazing.

Yes – that’s what it looks like in the bottle. A delicate, shimmery pink. And then BOOM!!!! Electric Blue!!!

Black Sheep does have a monthly subscription for $16 in the states, $20 in Canada, and $22 international. She sends two full size and one mini. I know that Canadian polish addicts have a hard time getting reliable shipping on a lot of subscription boxes but since BSL is based in Canada, you don’t have to have any worries!  No getting your sub a month after it’s shipped!  You can let her know your polish preferences and she’ll work with you to try and get you polishes you’ll love. She hasn’t failed me so far.

Check out Black Sheep Lacquer and tell her nailtipsy sent you!

This post was brought to you by the letters D & H and the number 90.  As in Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA.

Baroness of Glitter

As I’ve made evident in previous posts, I love glitter polishes.  When I came across the Baroness of Glitter, I was intrigued for obvious reasons.  I grabbed 3 polishes from her etsy store and today I’m going to share them with you. First up are two polishes from the Chromatic Love Collection.

This is Prismatic – a multichrome holo topcoat.

Prismatic1

Below is just one coat over OPI’s Black Onyx and Polish Alcoholic’s Zoisite.  I really wanted to see how this would layer over a brighter color and I was quite happy with the results.  I only used one coat because there was a whopping 5 minutes of sun and I wanted to grab it in natural light.

The formula on this top coat is quite thin. Mind the amount on your brush so you get nice even coats.  The photo below is two coats of Prismatic.  The purple color shift really comes through over the Zoisite. It has a beautiful galaxy look.

Prismatic3Next is Aquaflux.  This is a multichrome microglitter top coat with a green to magenta shift.

Aquaflux1

I loved the color shift on this one!  I did my best to capture it in full flair.

Aquaflux2

This is two coats of Aquaflux over OPI Black Onyx.  The formula on this top coat is thin as well so exercise caution on that brush dipping. But really, is there such a thing as too much glitter? (No.)

Aquaflux3I like the intense green shimmer you get when looking at it straight on.

Finally, we have Bubble Goth! An adorable mix of pastel pink, purple, and blue matte glitter in a white crelly base.  There’s also the very tiniest hint of blue microglitter.  Plus – skull and crossbones!

Bubble_Goth1

I love the concept of this polish.  As with most heavy glitters, you have to do a bit of fishing for the skulls.  Let the bottle sit upside down for a few minutes and they’ll come up closer to the surface. Give it a good shakin’ and you should be good to go.  This is two coats over OPI’s My Boyfriend Scales Walls and how freaking cute is it??

Bibble_Goth2

On my middle finger is a reappearance from Prismatic.  I used two coats of it over the OPI.  This worked really well as a canvas for the holo.

You can check out her many NEW polishes just released in her store at baronessofglitter.com. She’s also on twitter @glitterbaroness and on Instagram as baronessofglitter.

Multi-talented lady that she is, she also has a jewelry store on etsy! Check out demiflux.com to see her inspired creations!

Hit Polish Tribute Day 2 – Sunset Over Sedona

Hit SOS_4

This is my personal favorite – Sunset Over Sedona.  An absolutely stunning mix of gold, magenta, turquoise, and copper hexes and circles that perfectly emulate a desert sunset in the background of sheer magenta shimmer with gold and turquoise microglitter.

I used Zoya Mason as a base coat on my ring finger to provide some contrast.  I used a base coat of Glitter A-Peel, two coats of SOS, then topped it off with a coat of Glitter Food and Digital Flash.  Glitter A-Peel, Glitter Food, and Digital Flash are all from the glorious Nail Pattern Boldness.

Hit Polish Tribute Day 1 – Pennies From Heaven

Over the next week, I’ll be paying tribute to a wonderful indie polish company – Hit Polish.  It is with a heavy heart I inform you that her esty shop closed earlier this month.  However, so she is moving on to bigger and better things.  So, hooray for that!  In honor of her glitter polish brilliance, I will be posting a few of my favorites over the next few days.

Today, we look at Pennies From Heaven.  This is a beautiful rosy bronze base with gold and copper hologlitters in various shapes and sizes.

Hit PFH_1Her formulas are consistently wonderful and her glitter loads always juuuust right.

Hit PFH_2This is Mr. Tipsy’s favorite of the bunch.  What about you?  If you have any Hit Polishes, what are your favorites?

New Year’s Eve Mani!

Woohoo!  It’s New Year’s Eve! I’ve had a pint each of Karbach Brewery’s Fra-Gee-Lay and Deschutes Chasin’ Freshies and I’m in the celebrating mood!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t post my nails for the evening.

I used OPI Black Onyx and Wet n Wild Kaleidoscope.  My top coat is the WONDERFUL Digital Flash from Nail Pattern Boldness.  The WnW goes on really nicely and I haven’t regretted picking it up.  It’s almost half empty after a few months because it’s just so fun to throw on top of pretty much any color.

I hope everyone has a safe and spectacular New Year’s Eve and a glorious and prosperous 2014.

Thanks for your support!

Dark Queen of the Mermaids

I had been debating between an homage to my new Stila Magnificent Metal Foil shadow in dusty rose or my new MAC Pro Longwear eye liner in mountain air – which is amazing and beautiful and goes on like BUTTER and lasts aaaaaall day long.

Across the Universe gives me the best of both worlds with the blue and green hex and microglitters in a navy jelly base creating a reflective surface that I can only imagine is like catching the last glimmering light beam deep in the ocean with the very last light filtering through before darkness.  This is why I call it my Dark Queen of the Mermaids polish.

If you haven’t splurged for this one yet and you love blue polishes and/or glitters, this is definitely a must have for your collection.  The formula is perfection.  It goes on smoothly and beautiful and looks stunning even after just two coats by itself.  Putting this polish on is simply a joy because anyone can do it and look at their nails and be in awe.  Yes.  You just did that.
